In Greek mythology, a Dryad is a nymph or nature spirit who lives in trees and takes the form of a beautiful young woman. This painting was commissioned by a friend who is as close to being a dryad as is possible while still being a human woman. She spends hours in the woods with the trees and is here painted emerging from her favourite arbutus.
